Effect of Training Program on Staff Nurses Performance Care for Patient Undergoing Liver Organ and Tissue Transplantation

Abstract

Background: Today transplantation has become an accepted form of therapy for end stage organ failure. The field of transplantation is highly specialized and requires expert teams of surgeons, immunologists, medical and nurses specialists to achieve successful outcomes. The aim of the current study is to measure the effect of training program on staff nurses performance care for patients undergoing liver organ and tissue transplantation The present study hypotheses H1: The mean knowledge score post training program of nurses providing care for patients will be higher than their pre knowledge mean score.H2: The mean performance score post training program of nurses providing care for patients will be higher than their pre performance mean score. Methods: A quasi experimental design was utilized this study compromised all nurses at the El Manial University Hospital (specialized hospital), they were 40 nurses. The tools of data collection were 1) Interview questionnaire, 2) Observational checklist. The results revealed that there are significant differences in mean scores knowledge and practices between before and immediately after implementing program and at follow up (three months later). No significant differences in knowledge and practices were detected between immediately after implementing program and at follow up. The study concluded that all nurses were in need to improve their knowledge and practice about care of patients undergoing organ and tissue transplantation. Recommendations: Development of well planned orientation and in-service training programs for nurses assigned in organ transplant units on their knowledge and practices to develop a protocol of care for patients undergoing organ transplantation to be applied during organ and tissue donation.
