Patients need and nurses role in dermatology

ahmed, nematallah;

Abstract

Dermatological problems are often complex and multifactorial.
In Egypt, the extent of the problem has not yet
been established. There are certain difficulties in
obtaining accurate figures related to it. The present study
was done in three Ministry of Health hospitals for a
period of three months. Data was collected from the
inpatient and outpatient area using interview
questionnaires and Dermatology Quality of Life Index to
assess their characteristics and quality of life. Nurses
working in the same area were also assessed for their
knowledge and practice. The findings show that the
majority of nurses lack basic knowledge and there is poor
performance in some basic skills. Patient's results show
that skin problems affect their quality of life. The
recommendations emphasize the inclusion of
dermatology care in the nursing curriculum, in addition
to on job training for nurses working with patients with
dermatological problems.
