Transient and steady state creep of Al-10 wt% Ag and Al-22 wt% Ag alloys during metastable phase transition
Mahmoud, Moustafa;
Abstract
The effect of thermal aging of quenched Al–10 wt% Agand Al–22 wt% Ag alloys on the transient and steady state
creep behavior was determined in the aging temperature range (423–493 K). It was found that the strengthening and
softening of the alloys have been achieved during the formation of metastable phases (G.P zones and g0
-phase). TEM investigations confirmed that increasing Ag content in Al–Ag alloy plays a significant role in the coarsening of G.P
zones and the acceleration of g0- phase formation. The mean values of activation energy of both alloys were found to be
equal to that quoted for the pinning imposed to vibrating dislocations by G.P zones and g0-phase.
