Abstract
Low Voltage Ride-Through (LVRT) capability is one of the most important requirements for the wind energy conversion systems. This paper presents a novel technique for protecting the doubly fed induction generator's (DFIG) back-to-back converter. The proposed technique is based on high-pass passive filter to suppress the oscillatory rotor current which accounts for the natural flux generated during the grid fault. The dynamic behavior of the proposed scheme is evaluated by simulation using EMTDC/PSCAD software package. The proposed high-pass passive LR filter is successfully suppressing the rotor current regardless the rotor speeds.
